When to change nail drill bits

When to change nail drill bits

Posted by Elena Sokolova on

Diamond nail drill bits, like nail dril bits made of tungsten carbide, are subject to abrasion during use, which naturally causes gradual physical wear of the working surface of the nail bit. Abrasion of the abrasive begins from the moment work begins and continues until the nail drill bit completely loses its functional purpose, which marks the end of its working life.

Using nail drill bits whose surface has lost its functional properties not only increases the time of the manicure procedure and reduces the quality of the final result, but can also be dangerous. A nail drill bit with a worn surface can provide the client a burning sensation and injure the treated area of skin or nail.

To create the most comfortable and safe conditions for clients, ensuring that they will return and recommend the service to their friends, the nail technician needs to pay attention to the condition of nail drill bits for cuticle treatment, exfoliating cracked skin and other types of nail drill bits designed for work on sensitive areas.

Signs that nails bits needs replacing

  • The nail drill bit is no longer rough, its abrasive is completely erased.
  • The surface of the tungsten carbide nail drill bit has become dull.
  • Defects and unevenness of the working surface are visible.
  • The space between the abrasive grains is clogged with nail dust.
  • The efficiency of the nail drill bit when cleaning the pterygium has decreased.
  • Calluses and corns cannot be removed
  • Vibration sensation
  • The client complains of a burning sensation

Recommendations for using of nail drill bits

Wear on the working surface of a nail drill bit is a natural process that cannot be avoided or prevented, however, factors that affect the working cycle of the tool can be determined:

    1. Intensity of nail bit use: the more often a nail drill bit is used for its intended purpose, the faster it wears out. The wear rate of a nail bit is directly proportional to the intensity of its use for manicure or pedicure.
    2. Scope of application: nail drill bits for manicure or pedicure should be used strictly for their intended purpose - drill bits for working on the skin cannot be used for working on the nail plate, and vice versa.
    3. Selection of abrasiveness: for rough skin you should use a nail drill bit with a coarse abrasiveness, and for delicate skin you need to use a nail drill bit with a fine abrasiveness.
